Veteran-owned and family-operated, McCarthy's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning and Benjamin Franklin Plumbing provide trusted heating, cooling, and plumbing services throughout Omaha & Iowa. A Legacy Built on Trust, A Future Built on Leadership
For more than 55 years, McCarthy's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning has been a trusted name in the Omaha community. Founded in 1970 by John McCarthy, the company was built on the principles of honesty, integrity, quality workmanship, and treating customers like family. What began as a one-truck operation grew into one of the most respected home service companies in the Midwest through an unwavering commitment to doing the right thing every time. John McCarthy dedicated his life to serving customers, building relationships, and creating a company culture centered around people. Throughout the decades, McCarthy's became known not only for exceptional HVAC service, but for its dedication to employees, community involvement, and industry leadership. As the first One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning franchise in the nation, McCarthy's helped establish standards that continue to influence the home service industry today. As every great company eventually faces a transition of leadership, John McCarthy sought someone who shared his values, vision, and passion for serving others. A Master-at-Arms Navy Veteran and accomplished home service leader, Scott joined McCarthy's during one of the most challenging periods in the company's history. Recognizing both the opportunity and responsibility before him, Scott and his wife Sarah prayed extensively about the decision before uprooting their family and relocating from Florida to Omaha. Their decision was not simply about taking a position, it was about preserving a legacy. Within days of Scott's arrival, unforeseen circumstances required him to assume leadership responsibilities far sooner than anyone anticipated. While navigating significant operational challenges, Scott remained focused on honoring the culture John McCarthy had spent decades building while implementing the systems, accountability, and vision necessary to secure the company's future. Under Scott's leadership, McCarthy's has experienced remarkable growth and revitalization. The company has strengthened profitability, expanded employee benefits, increased retirement contributions, invested in technology, improved training programs, enhanced customer experience initiatives, and created new opportunities for team members to succeed professionally and personally. More importantly, Scott has continued the people-first culture that has always defined McCarthy's. Employees know him as a servant leader who works alongside his team, answers after-hours calls, supports technicians in the field, mentors future leaders, and genuinely cares about the success and well-being of every employee and their family. Today, as ownership transitions from founder John McCarthy to Scott Wood Jr., the company enters a new chapter built upon the same values that have guided it for over five decades. This transition represents more than a business transaction, it is the passing of a legacy from one respected leader to another. is building the future. By combining the timeless values that made McCarthy's successful with innovative leadership, operational excellence, and a servant's heart, Scott is ensuring that McCarthy's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning and Benjamin Franklin Plumbing will continue serving families throughout Omaha for generations to come. The story of McCarthy's is one of perseverance, integrity, and service. The next chapter of that story is being written by Scott Wood Jr., and the future has never been brighter.
