Here's the deal. You have Scuba Steve doing a bottom job for mom & pop. He is using an electric paint compressor strapped to a refrigerator dolly as his equipment. I would guess he has no liability, workers compensation insurance or a business license for that matter. This is taking place in a navigable waterway with marine traffic in and out on thier way to the ICW. No dive flag, no standy-by air, no communication with topside, no lock out on the engines, he is diving alone with no stand-by diver, all requirements by the USCG & OSHA. He is SCUBA trained for recreational diving ONLY but thinks wait a minute I can make money at this and call myself a commercial diver at the bar. If you hire SCUBA Steve to work for you, your part of the problem and your liabilities are way out there. This is against USCG & OSHA regulations and you will be held responsible if things go downhill. Don't take a risk by hiring SCUBA Steve. Request a certificate of insurance, a copy of their business license and make sure the company follows the USCG & OSHA regulations. I understand that hiring a legitimate commercial diving company can be exspesive but SCUBA Steve needs to adhere to the same standards.
