The World’s Greatest Traveler: The Red Knot
Jacksonville, Florida
Every year, the Red Knot undertakes a migration that spans thousands of miles, flying from the high Arctic all the way down to the southern tips of South America and back again.
Some individuals travel more than 18,000 miles round-trip annually. To put that in perspective, that is nearly the circumference of the Earth!
Despite their amazing endurance, Red Knots face growing challenges, including habitat loss and declining food resources. Every stopover site along their journey is vital to their survival.
Have you ever spotted a Red Knot along the beach or during migration? Where did you see it? Share your sightings and photos in the comments!
