Built America Magazine is headed to Houston for the Resilient City Expo and the co-located Chemical Risk Expo, October 14–15 at the George R. Brown Convention Center — running alongside Disasters Expo USA, Power Continuity Expo, and First Responders Expo. Four events, one convention center, forming what's essentially a joint command center for urban resilience, emergency response, and industrial risk management.

The speaker lineup is already shaping up strong, including Adam Lee of Memorial Hermann Health System on critical infrastructure resilience, alongside panels featuring former FEMA resilience executives.

We'll be covering it live — the people, the sessions, the companies leading on resilience before the next disaster requires it.

Before October gets going, a quick look back at the month that got us here.

September opened with Labor Day and a reminder of who this industry actually belongs to. It carried us through 25 years since September 11th, remembering the ironworkers and crews who rebuilt alongside first responders. It gave us Women Building the Future, Volume II, launched live at the FBMA Women's Summit in Orlando, featuring SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler, NAWIC's Rita Brown, NRLA's Rita Ferris, and more. It closed with Native American Day and the start of Careers in Construction Month.

A lot happened in one month. October's only going to be busier — Fire Prevention Week, Chemical Risk Expo, Disasters Expo USA, and Resilient City Expo all land this month, with Built America Magazine covering all of it.

The nor'easter is still battering the Northeast. The rebuild starts the moment it lets go.

An early-season nor'easter has spent days pushing coastal flooding, high winds, and heavy rain from the Outer Banks up through New Jersey, New York, and New England. More than 40 million people have been in its path, with tens of thousands left without power.

When the water recedes, the work begins: roads cleared, power lines restored, seawalls and dunes repaired, homes made safe again. That work belongs to construction crews and the contractors behind them.
