Shared challenges, new connections, and a little friendly competition. AVCON team members recently stepped away from the office for a firm team-building day at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, The Escape Game Orlando, and Cold Stone Creamery.

From working together to beat the clock to catching up over lunch and ice cream, the day gave colleagues time to connect beyond project work and strengthen the relationships that help teams collaborate every day.

Avery County Airport has officially opened its new terminal and hangar, marking a significant investment in the future of aviation in western North Carolina.

The $5.3 million project included the demolition of aging facilities and construction of a new terminal building featuring offices, conference space, a pilot lounge, and public gathering areas, along with a new 10,000-square-foot hangar designed to support aircraft storage and airport operations. The project also included extensive site improvements, including grading, drainage, utilities, parking, and lighting enhancements.

AVCON team members joined representatives from the Avery County Airport Authority, airport users, community leaders, and project partners for the ribbon-cutting celebration, where Project Manager Travis Bird, PE delivered remarks recognizing the Airport Authority, airport users, and members of the community, while acknowledging the many individuals involved in the planning, design, and construction of the project.

Congratulations to the Avery County Airport Authority, C DESIGN, and the entire project team on reaching this important milestone.

The new complex represents a major investment in both national defense infrastructure and the region's growing aerospace industry.

AVCON was proud to join Fleet Readiness Center East, the U.S. Navy, North Carolina Global TransPark, HDR and all project partners for the ribbon-cutting ceremony marking this achievement.

Congratulations to the entire project team on bringing this important facility to fruition.
