Safety isn’t just a priority at H. J. High — it’s part of our culture. Every employee who steps onto a jobsite is committed to maintaining a safe environment for our team members, clients, trade partners, and community.

A special thank you to our Safety Director, Cindy Spiropoulos, for the leadership and dedication she brings to every project. Because of her commitment to safety, our crews are able to work confidently and return home safely each day.

Two weeks ago, H. J. High celebrated the opening of the beautiful new, state-of-the-art Pet Alliance animal shelter.

This project holds a special place for our team. In 2021, the organization and community experienced a heartbreaking loss when the previous facility was destroyed by a devastating fire, and we were honored to stand alongside them in the journey forward.

In collaboration with Borrelli + Partners, our team delivered the largest animal medical shelter in Florida, expanding the ability to rescue, treat, and rehome animals in need. The Pet Alliance is truly deserving of a space like this, and we’re grateful to have played a role in bringing it to life. We also want to thank the community and the generous donors who helped make this vision a reality.

H. J. High is proud to have been part of a project that will give so many animals a second chance.

Progress continues at the Pinellas Park Public Safety Campus as both the new Pinellas Park Police Department Police Headquarters and Pinellas Park Fire Department Fire Station 33 take shape!

đźš” Interior framing is nearly complete at the Police Headquarters, with concrete floors being polished and exterior painting underway.

đźš’ At the Fire Station, the apparatus bay slab was poured, interior framing continues, and stucco work is set to begin next week.

We are proud to see this campus come together while we deliver these essential facilities for Pinellas Park's first responders.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of H. J. High’s Chairman, Steven High.

Steve was a pillar of the Central Florida community for more than six decades and played an instrumental role in shaping the region through the construction of some of its most iconic buildings. He took over H. J. High in 1968 after the passing of his father, Harlem “Johnny” High. Building on his father’s vision, he led the company with honesty, integrity, and empathy.

Steve didn’t just believe in an open-door policy — he lived it. In fact, he had no door on his office. He welcomed anyone to sit down, talk, and have a meaningful conversation. With his calm demeanor and candor, he helped build a true family culture at H. J. High — one that his son, Robert, proudly carries forward today.

Those who knew Steve will remember his humility, kindness, and generosity, always paired with just the right touch of tongue-in-cheek humor. He had a gift for seeing the humanity in people and lived in a way that inspired others to do the same. He was a man of great faith, he allowed that faith to guide both his business and personal life.

Steve was part of a generation of builders in Central Florida that truly was a different breed. A true builder with an unparalleled work ethic and a focus on the details of each project. Buddy Eidel, founder of Tri-City Electrical, described Steve as “Demanding and tough, but always fair … a steadfast businessman, father, husband, citizen, and friend.” Many colleagues in our industry would certainly agree.

Steve will be deeply missed, and we are grateful to have been able to share in his remarkable life.

Steve’s Funeral will be this Saturday, January 3, at 11:00 am at Discovery Church on Sand Lake Road.

Yesterday, we officially broke ground on the new City of Orlando Fire Station 18 with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 1 City Commissioner Jim Gray, and Interim Orlando Fire Chief Jason Revoldt in attendance.

Station 18 is part of the City’s larger initiative to expand and modernize public safety infrastructure, ensuring Orlando keeps pace with rapid growth in the Southeast region. We’re proud to help bring this important project to life with the help of our design partners Architects Design Group and look forward to sharing progress as construction moves forward!

On Tuesday, we were thrilled to stand alongside Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Tony Ortiz District 2 Commissioner, Orlando Fire Department leadership, and the Station 6 crew as the City officially cut the ribbon on the new Orlando Fire Station 6.

This celebration also marks a special milestone for us at H. J. High Construction. We are truly honored to have delivered the City’s last three fire stations in their modernization initiative—Stations 9, 11, and now 6—all transformed into state-of-the-art facilities for Orlando’s first responders.

A huge thank-you to our design partners at Architects Design Group, to GOAA for their support throughout the process, and to our entire team who brought this vision to life. Congratulations to the Station 6 crew on your beautiful new home!
