Our SPEARS (Sorbent Polymer Extraction and Remediation System) is an in-situ system to extract PCBs, dioxins, and other chlorinated contaminants from sediments πŸ’§ The SPEARS technology was invented at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration to create a better and greener solution for sediment remediation πŸƒ

"Most plastics in the ocean break up into very small particles. These small plastic bits are called 'microplastics.'" 🌊
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

Microplastics are able to absorb Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) and various Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPS). When marine organisms such as fish consume the plastics, the PCBs are then released into the gut and intestines of the fish. This causes increased exposure for the marine organisms.

What is the SPEARS in ecoSPEARS?

SPEARS is a plastic mat technology that is each filled with our solvent and then inserted into a scalable geosynthetic mat liner. The mat liners are then deployed down into the contaminated sediment where they act like a β€œsponge”, passively absorbing PCB’s from the sediment around it 🌳

The NASA-developed SPEARS technology (Sorbent Polymer Extraction and Remediation System) is a transformative in-situ green system for PCB, Dioxins, and other hydrophobic contaminated sediments. SPEARS is a truly approach using less water, energy, and emissions than traditional cleanup methods πŸ’§

Once the remedial site goals are met, the SPEARS and mats are safely removed and retrieved, where they enter our Reductive Integrated Destruction System (RIDS), destroying the PCBs and your liability – Forever.
