This week PAI maintenance and operations personnel are on-site at an open pit silver-gold mine in Nevada, USA. We are validating equipment and gathering information for maintenance modules and operating procedures being written at our Tucson office. PAI maintenance manager Billy Brown explains that going to a site for validation gives us the opportunity to compare what has been installed on-site with what we have written using information provided by the client. We can then make changes to the modules or preventive maintenance procedures (PMs) as necessary. He adds, “We also get a chance to take photos of the equipment that is installed and add them into our modules. That way the maintenance team sees the exact equipment they will be working on at the site. This ensures that the information in the final modules is as ac-curate as possible for training.” Another benefit of going on-site is meeting some of the people from the maintenance and operations teams.

Recently, A research group at Finland’s University of Turku found that color-changing minerals such as hackmanite have hydrocarbons in their structures that allow them to switch their natural coloration reversibly due to exposure to radiation.
