Today on site in Fulton I put the final touches on the Pool Deck, and now this job can officially be submitted to the history books! This project started last August with the deck build which evolved every step of the way, and continued this spring with the addition of the custom pergola. This was by far my most creative project to date, with elements of my design style seen in almost every detail on the build. It’s not often I am fortunate enough to get clients who trust me when I say “don’t worry, I can picture it all in my mind!” and then give me free reign to bring that vision to life for them. This deck features Tigerwood decking, a solid Tigerwood pergola, an accent privacy wall with vertical ipe elements and built in shelves, composite skirting, and a fence surrounding the pool with a privacy detail on the side facing the neighbors. I’m happy to hand this project off to my clients knowing they will make some amazing memories on this deck for years to come.

I got all this Tigerwood from so make sure you give Neal a call for your next project as well.

The Misogi Table. For my final post of the year I chose to feature what is my most personally meaningful project of 2025. In my ongoing quest to turn bodies of water into pieces of wooden furniture, here is my interpretation of the ancient Shinto ritual of Misogi, a purification achieved by sitting beneath a waterfall and bearing something that is beyond you, with the hopes of coming out a stronger and more spiritually developed person. I made this table for my Madre, who this year won her battle against lung cancer and proved once again her undying strength in the face of hardship, something that has continued to inspire me since I was a child. This table is made from black walnut and hickory, with the walnut legs meant to be the cliff over which the water is flowing, and the live edge of the hickory slab being the river’s edge at the precipice of the cliff from which it is falling. The hickory side rails are mortised straight through the walnut and run continuously from top to bottom representing the water as it falls, with the pattern in the back another take on my love for Japanese carpentry and woodworking philosophy. It meant the world to be able to make this for you Madre, and even more to be able to give it to you as a healthy woman after this year’s struggles. I love you always.

I know all you Muggles out there are gonna be jealous, but here’s a fresh batch of wands I just finished crafting for some Christmas gifts. Burmese Teak with a mane of Cinthe core, and Curupay with Iemisch scale core. I can’t wait to see which wizards or witches these wands choose!

Today on site in Minetto I finished the downstairs of my house with new Ipe hardwood flooring, with a Purple Heart accent on the stair landings! Before I even started drawing up the original designs for this house, and even before I began thinking about the size and shapes of the rooms I decided I wanted Ipe (Brazilian Walnut) hardwoods for the downstairs. From the first time I saw the wood I fell in love with all it had to offer, the range of colors, grains, the warmth it brings to the room, not to even mention the durability inherent in Ipe wood that makes this floor as resilient as it is beautiful. Finishing this project has been a huge step towards making this house feel more like home, and every check off our list reminds us of how far we have come. From finding the land, clearing the property, and building our dream home my wife and I have done it all by hand, she even helped me frame the house the old fashioned way, with a hammer and a handful of nails, all while she was pregnant. Now we are hunkering down for our sixth winter up on top of Worden Hill, getting ready to celebrate our fourth Christmas with our little man, and ready to break in these beautiful floors while we enjoy the indoors for a bit.
From here I’ve got a lot of trim to start making, some more custom projects, a few more things to try to check off the list here at home, and a lot more woodworking to come. Stay tuned. As always I got these amazing hardwoods for this project (and every project I do) from so make sure you give Neal a call for your next project as well.

This weekend on site in Minetto I got my hardwood floors installed through the upstairs of my house. Originally when I designed the house I had imagined using Jatoba ( Brazilian Cherry) for the flooring upstairs, but after a lot of deliberation and putting samples in the space in different light I ended up deciding on Garapa (Brazilian Ash) and I think it was the perfect choice. The multitude of colors and grain patterns in the Garapa boards makes the floor grab all your attention when you get to the top of the stairs. The golden hues and the high presence of chatoyance throughout the boards makes the floor almost sparkle in the sun as you walk across, really so much more amazing than I had anticipated and possibly the best looking hardwood I have ever seen for areas with lots of natural sunlight. I’m already started on the downstairs floors so stay tuned to see more hardwoods going down and tons more woodworking projects this winter.
You know I got all these beautiful hardwoods (and all the other woods you might see in my house) from so make sure you give Neal a call for your next project.
