Incorporated in June of 1961, the mission of Big Rivers is to safely deliver competitive and reliable wholesale power and cost-effective shared services desired by the Member-Owners. Big Rivers owns and operates 936 MW of generating capacity from three power stations: Robert D. Green (454 MW), Robert A. Reid CT (65 MW), and D.B. Wilson (417 MW). Total power capacity is 1,114 MW, including contracted capacity from the Southeastern Power Administration (SEPA). High-voltage electric power is delivered to the Member-Owners over a system of 1,305 miles of transmission lines and 24 substations owned by Big Rivers. STAY SAFE FROM SEVERE STORMS AND ELECTRICAL HAZARDS:

Today’s weather could potentially bring severe weather. Strong storms and tornadoes can strike with little warning, leaving behind downed power lines, damaged electrical equipment, and dangerous debris.

Plan now for safe shelter and power-outage supplies, watch for weather alerts or warnings, and stay away from downed lines and storm damage.

BEFORE THE STORM⚡:
• Prepare an emergency kit with water, a battery-powered flashlight, a radio, extra batteries, and portable charging banks.
• Keep your phone handy in case you need to report an outage or downed line.
• Fully charge cell phones and backup power banks before severe weather hits so you can use them in an emergency.

DURING A SEVERE STORM OR TORNADO 🌪:
• Seek shelter in a basement or a small, interior room with no windows, such as a bathroom or closet.
• Turn off and unplug appliances and electronics to protect them from power surges.

AFTER THE STORM 🌦:
• Stay away from downed power lines and anything they could touch, such as trees, fences, or debris. Always assume they are energized.
• If you see a downed line while driving, do not exit your vehicle. Call 911 and warn others to stay away.
• Do not touch anyone who is in contact with a power line. Call 911 immediately and wait for emergency responders.

Employee will perform under limited supervision the assigned duties connected to the operation and routine maintenance of all applicable power generation equipment and controls on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. General knowledge of coal qualities & material handling process preferred. Will perform routine preventative maintenance tasks like lubrication, cleaning and minor repairs on equipment. Operate various coal handling equipment, including conveyors, crushers, feeders, and stackers. Maintain the coal yard by keeping it clean, organized, and free of hazards.

Mechanic – IRC9719
Location - Centertown, KY

Employees’ responsibilities include installing equipment, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing machinery to ensure efficient and safe operation in industrial settings. Key duties involve performing regular diagnostic tests and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, replacing parts, rebuilding pumps, motor alignment, welding, fabricating, and maintaining detailed records of work performed. Minimum three years of related experience*; or a combination of experience and education, in a related field from a state approved industrial vocational school or a recognized, accredited technical school, equal to three years. Applicants must successfully complete BREC's pre-employment and screening requirements.

*Mechanical-related experience means having worked as a mechanic, doing major mechanical repairs, usually in an industrial environment. Replacement of component parts, regardless of the number of years’ experience, will not satisfy the required qualifications.
