With great sadness, we share the passing of our father and friend, Mike Wiggins Sr., on April 13th, two days before his 83rd birthday.
Mike began working at the shop from a very young age under his father, Mel Wiggins, who founded the company in 1955 and was himself an innovator in the forklift industry. Over the course of 50 years, Mike played a defining role in shaping both the company and the marina and high-capacity forklift industry it serves.
Mike stepped away from day-to-day operations more than a decade ago, as leadership transitioned to his daughter, Michele Wiggins, who continues to lead the company today. He remained a trusted advisor, offering guidance and support over the years. The company continues forward under Michele’s leadership, with the next generation also involved, including his grandson, Micah McDowell, Head of Sales.
Mike’s influence and innovative spirit shaped the industry in lasting ways. But what mattered most to him were the relationships he built along the way. He had a deep love for his customers, his employees, and most of all, his family — his children, grandchildren, and his wife, Nancy, whom he married in August of 1963.
Together, Mike and Nancy walked through the joys and challenges of building a business side by side. They especially cherished the travel it brought and the many people they met along the way.
Mike was known for his thoughtfulness, his willingness to listen, and the genuine care he showed to others. He approached people with patience and perspective, often finding common ground where others could not.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor Mike’s life with an act of kindness in his memory.
