We got some feedback on our stance regarding air quality. Many believe humidity is critical and must be controlled via driers etc for optimum cut quality and part longevity. I'd agree with that in part, but I'd argue money spent on humidity control may be better spent elsewhere. Measure the humidity (the tool is cheap), do test cuts, and compare humid days to dry days. We think a $750 torch will have a far greater impact on cut quality than a $1000 humidity control device. We've seen guys running expensive active driers with a $700 machine driving a $200 torch, and being disappointed. Anyway, this old post is a good read - very interesting. from a very knowledgeable guy Jim C**t (credit to Jim & PlasmaSpider) - I dont fully agree, but worth reading.

When diagnosing cut quality issues - few people talk about air pressure and flow. 'Dryness' helps - but a correctly tuned air flow is what makes the actual cut - and it determines the ultimate cut quality.

Air pressure and flow are absolutely critical for great cut quality -
Get these right BEFORE SPENDING MONEY on an air drier that may not even help - or make your air system less efficient

We see new fab guys spend more money on an air drier than a plasma torch. We'd argue - a nice machine with crappy torch makes a lots of frustration - while a fair machine with great torch makes easy work.

Check your plasma air system efficiency -
you MUST HAVE a gauge - connect it right before the air solenoid
if you dont have a gauge - GET ONE
set compressor at 100psi++, as close as possible/use large air lines
fire your torch and set the proper dynamic pressure (while running) turn it off and check the static pressure (non running)
Static pressure is always higher then Dynamic - a Delta above 5psi may be problematic.

Now - do this repeatedly until your compressor cycles
If you find a difference (Delta should STAY CONSTANT) during this time fix it before doing anything else.
