It might be a conversation that starts at GRC. A colleague you meet in the hallway. A student you get to teach. A field visit. A new idea shared over coffee. Or the people you keep coming back to, year after year.

Those moments are what make the geothermal community what it is.

GRC brings us together, but membership keeps that community connected throughout the year.

GRC 2026 brought the geothermal community together in Houston. The conversation didn’t stay there.

During the conference, 300+ journalists received GRC press releases, 12 credentialed media representatives attended, and more than 10 media organizations were represented.

Following the conference, GRC was featured across independent media, industry publications, federal and institutional channels, and communications from industry partners.

The coverage highlighted some of the biggest conversations happening across geothermal, from technology and commercialization to investment, AI and data centers, oil and gas convergence, and Houston’s role in geothermal scale-up.

From ThinkGeoEnergy coverage of the inaugural Geothermal Rising Tech Awards to amplification from the U.S. Department of Energy and industry organizations, the story of GRC reached well beyond the conference itself.

The Geothermal Good Life is creating opportunities for the next generation to be part of the geothermal community.

Through the 2026 Geothermal Rising Travel Grant Program, students had the opportunity to travel to Houston, experience GRC 2026, learn from leaders across the industry, and build relationships that can continue long after the conference.

We’re grateful to WING USA for supporting this year’s Travel Grant Program and helping make GRC more accessible to students.

We’re also grateful to Karen Christopherson, Sean Marshall, Moones Alamooti, and Amelia Letvin for volunteering their time as this year’s travel grant judges.

Geothermal Rising Action applauds the bipartisan leadership, collaboration, and commitment to problem-solving that led to the introduction of the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 (S. 5653). At a time when the nation faces growing energy demand and increasing infrastructure needs, sustained bipartisan engagement is essential to advancing durable policy solutions.

The legislation includes several provisions that would help support the deployment of domestic geothermal energy and the transmission infrastructure needed to deliver reliable, affordable power to American homes and businesses. In particular, the bill's geothermal and transmission reforms have the potential to improve permitting certainty, strengthen long-term infrastructure planning, and facilitate the development of critical energy projects.

Geothermal Rising Action appreciates the work of Congress in advancing these efforts and looks forward to continuing to support policies that strengthen U.S. energy security, grid reliability, and economic growth through expanded geothermal development.

GRC 2026 brought the geothermal community together to talk about where the industry is headed.

During that same week, the U.S. Department of Energy announced the selection of 21 projects focused on next-generation geothermal field testing and exploration drilling, with up to $99 million for the first budget period.

The selections include five field-scale enhanced geothermal systems tests and 16 exploration drilling projects. Together, the projects are focused on testing technologies in the field, exploring promising resources, and generating data that can help move geothermal forward.

It’s a reminder that the conversations happening at GRC are connected to work happening across the industry every day.

The conference may have brought everyone together for a few days. The work continues long after everyone heads home.
