Today, I was asked about the importance of replacing a distribution box in a septic system, specifically what issues it resolves or prevents, and what the consequences would be if it weren't done. A properly functioning septic system is crucial for multiple reasons. Not only does it prevent sewage backups into the house and unsightly sewage wet spots in the yard that can cause odors and be a nuisance, but it also plays a significant role in environmental protection and preservation of the water table. The old concrete box had deteriorated, causing effluent to flow to only one lateral trench, which could lead to premature failure of that trench and reduce the lifespan of the entire system. A new plastic box was installed which will stand up against the harsh environment that deteriorates concrete.
