Tiny house owners can combat the freezing cold by covering their homes with a layer of protection — this is known as skirting. Skirting helps to keep heat inside and also protects pipes from being frozen. But with this, skirting can make a great warm space under your home for unwanted critters to make themselves comfortable. Take steps to avoid unwanted furry friends under your dwelling by sealing off small cracks and spaces and keeping firewood up off the ground, at least 18 inches. If they do nest under your home, call the professionals to come humanely trap them and relocate them to a safe location.

💡One of the less romanticized factors in building your new tiny home on a trailer is considering your towing capabilities. Will you be able to haul it? Some tiny homes can weigh upwards of 15,000 pounds! Your Prius probably won't do the job with this one! You should also think about whether or not you're comfortable pulling an additional trailer and house that's longer than 20 feet and 7 1/2 feet wide. On top of gas costs, travel time for maneuvering around other cars on the road as well their load--you'll need extra caution when driving during inclement weather conditions since these types of vehicles are more likely to slide off-road because they have little weight distribution over four wheels like larger trucks.
