Building a chemical process system on-site means weather delays, work permits, site congestion, and months of construction risk. Modular construction eliminates most of that.

Koch Modular designs and fabricates complete chemical process systems off-site in a controlled shop environment, fully assembled, piped, instrumented, and tested before they ever reach your facility. The result: schedules that are months shorter, costs that are 25–30% lower than field construction, and a single lump-sum purchase order that keeps your project team focused on what matters.

Every system is custom-engineered for the application and backed by a Process Performance Guarantee.

Recovering solvent from a pharmaceutical manufacturing stream sounds straightforward, until the solvent forms an azeotrope with a higher-boiling impurity.

For a multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, Koch Modular designed a system to recover IMS alcohols (ethanol and methanol) from a mixed stream also containing toluene, fumaric acid, API, and other proprietary compounds. Toluene forms a minimum-boiling azeotrope with the alcohols, and trace high-boiling impurities threatened to plug the column, so Koch Modular ran a proof-of-concept pilot test before finalizing the modular design, then engineered around both challenges with careful sump temperature control and reboiler condensate handling.

The result: a two-column distillation system, built to CE/PED and ATEX standards, that recovers high-purity solvent for reuse and cuts waste disposal costs.

A group of 50, consisting of Koch Modular employees and their families, attended the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament in Lyndhurst, NJ.
The group cheered on the Green Knight as he battled for victory in a tournament that included jousting and sword fighting. Between the action, guests enjoyed a four-course royal feast. A great time was had by all.

Mixer-settlers have been the default choice for many critical material recovery operations, but they come with real limitations: large footprint, high solvent inventory, and scaling challenges.

Koch Modular's webinar, Critical Material Recovery: Replacing Mixer-Settlers with Agitated Extraction Columns, explores how agitated extraction columns can deliver higher throughput in a significantly smaller footprint, with lower solvent hold-up and better scalability for rare earth and critical mineral applications.

As global demand for critical minerals intensifies, engineering teams evaluating separation system design will want to understand the tradeoffs between these technologies.

Spent caustic streams are notoriously difficult to treat: fouling polymers, corrosive salts, and strict discharge limits all have to be managed in one system.

For a Middle East client, Koch Modular engineered a modular solution that pairs liquid-liquid extraction with steam stripping, first removing fouling polymers from the caustic stream, then stripping Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX) down to below 10 ppb. Fouling-resistant fixed-valve trays, spiral plate heat exchangers, and Duplex Alloy 2205 construction kept the system reliable in an aggressive, corrosion-prone environment.

Delivered as pre-assembled, fully tested truckable modules, the system met stringent EPA discharge requirements while cutting on-site construction time and cost.

Proving carbon capture works at scale requires more than a good concept. It requires a modular pilot system built for flexibility, real data, and reliable operation.

Koch Modular delivered a fixed-price CO2 capture pilot plant for a coal-fired power plant, treating 2,400 scmh of flue gas with a two-stage stripping process. On time. On budget. Technology commercialized.

TiCl4 is moisture-sensitive, corrosive, and forms toxic byproducts on contact with air. Designing a modular distillation system around it takes serious engineering.

Koch Modular delivered two modular systems for a specialty chemicals client: one for hexane and silicone oil separation, one for TiCl4 product recovery. Both met strict temperature limits, prevented moisture ingress, and hit an aggressive delivery schedule.

IPA and water form an azeotrope. Conventional distillation can't separate them. So how do you recover IPA at pharmaceutical-grade purity?

Koch Modular engineered a dual-mode azeotropic distillation system that operates in batch and continuous modes, uses IPE as an entrainer, and handles complex solids in the feed. The result: 96 wt% IPA product, reduced disposal costs, and reliable long-term operation.
