Heads up! Changes are coming for Section 609 Requirements. Beginning January 1, 2018 a Section 609 certification card will be required to purchase R-12, R-134a, or R-1234yf cylinders of 10 pounds or more. Distributors are required to keep records of certified technicians purchasing refrigerant. If you are already Section 609 certified your credentials are good for life. There is no mandatory re-certification required by EPA, however the Section 609 training program was updated as of 1/1/2015 and includes information on the new refrigerant R-1234yf.

Read the regulations on the EPA website at epa.gov/section608/refrigerant-sales-restriction

Also, Learn more about this topic on the MACS website at macs.org

Describes the refrigerant sales restriction, which applies to all ODS refrigerants contained in bulk containers (such as cylinders, cans, or drums).

Condensers found on today’s trucks are manufactured as a parallel flow style condenser. The condenser has flat tubes with very small passages for refrigerant flow. Thus, it can remove the “heat” from the refrigerant in a very efficient manner. The passages inside the flat tubes are very small and cannot be flushed. Proper diagnosis of this type of condenser is critical when repairing the A/C system.

Receiver Driers 101: Receiver Driers are usually located on the high side of the a/c system before the expansion valve. The receiver drier "receives" liquid refrigerant from the condenser, stores it, filters out contaminates from the a/c system, and removes moisture. A/C systems using a receiver drier use an expansion valve to control the refrigerant flow.
