From mummies to mandalas, our STEM students spent the day at Emory University!

We toured campus and caught up with McIntosh STEM grad and former STEM leader Xiaoqing Huang (Fiona), who showed us what college life looks like on the other side. 💙

At the Michael C. Carlos Museum, students went behind the scenes to learn the chemistry of art conservation: how scientists analyze pigments, fight corrosion, and keep 3,000-year-old artifacts intact for future generations.

The highlight? Watching Tibetan Buddhist monks build a sand mandala grain by grain, and even trying the technique ourselves. A powerful lesson in focus, patience, and compassion, and a reminder that science and art have way more in common than you’d think.

Thank you to Emory, the Carlos Museum, and Fiona for an unforgettable day!

This wasn’t just a field trip. It was a field experience.

50 of our 9th grade STEM students walked over to SMC3 to see how a logistics technology company works from the inside. After prepping with a research, students met teams across data management, cybersecurity, programming, marketing, and education to learn how data drives decisions in freight logistics, how AI is changing jobs rather than replacing them, and how agile and waterfall project management work in the real world.

The day wrapped up with CEO Andrew Slusher’s talk on aiming high, because even if you fall short, you still go a long way.

STEM AP Research Visit to UGA Griffin — 🔬🌾 Our STEM AP Research students visited UGA Griffin and got face time with real scientists in plant pathology, entomology, food innovation, and crop genetics.
