MYTH: Spray-on fire retardant coatings can be substituted for pressure treated Fire Retardant Treated Wood. FALSE.

Building codes don't permit wood coated or painted with "fire retardant" products to substitute for pressure impregnated FRTW — coatings are typically only tested for 10 minutes, Not the required Extended 30-minute test for flame spread and smoke development per the requirements of the model building codes. Always check the ESR Report and compliance for Division 6 rough carpentry.
