Fortis Construction LLC, General Contractor, is seeking an experienced, motivated individual to join our team of hard-working, dedicated professionals working on a variety of construction projects. The intent of this position is to add estimating capabilities to Fortis while training this employee in project management, and eventually promoting this position to a Senior Project Manager. In this role, you will prepare cost estimates from drawings, outlines or job specifications while managing a limited number of projects. The combined responsibilities include but are not limited to:

RESPONSIBILITIES (Estimating):
• Create comprehensive cost estimates for a wide variety of construction projects including civil, vertical and rail construction.
• Prepares and estimates budget costs for construction by studying plans and specifications.
• Survey potential sites for suitability and associated cost
• Verify vendor and subcontractor estimates fall within the defined scope
• Develops unit costs accurately
• Resolves cost differences by analyzing and collecting information
• Solicits and analyzes subcontractor and vendor pricing input when required
• Attends project site pre-bid meetings, site tours and post-bid interviews as required
• Performs technical/plan review when required
• Navigates and understands building codes
• Gather and monitor actual cost vs. estimated cost, maintaining project cost history
• Manage and maintain subcontractor database and subcontractor prequalification
• Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations.

RESPONSIBILITES (Jr. Project Manager)
• Two week look ahead and schedule updates
• Subcontractor pay application review and approval
• Submittal review and approval
• Periodic superintendent check-ins
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management (preferred)
• Cost estimation experience (4-6 years strongly preferred)
• Operations experience on commercial construction projects.
• Knowledgeable of the following: civil/site construction, foundation and structural systems, casework, doors, specialties, interior finishes, exterior building systems, mechanical and electrical systems
• Ability to read technical drawings
• Strong computer skills including estimating software, spreadsheets, bid management. Strong knowledge of Microsoft products, Word, Excel, Office, Outlook, Teams.
• Possess good organization skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.

The Civil Construction Superintendent at FORTIS Construction will oversee daily civil construction activities for a number of developments in Maryland, Virginia, and South Carolina. You’ll supervise on-site construction teams and ensure projects are delivered on-time and on-budget.

This role requires excellent communication skills, as you’ll collaborate with various people, such as construction workers, architects and engineers. In order to succeed, it’s important to know how to implement quality, health, and safety standards onsite.

This position required as mastery in the following skills:

· Reading engineering drawings and providing feedback during design on best/better planning.
· Installation of infrastructure including domestic and fire water supplies, hydrants, stormwater sewer, sanitary sewer, pump station, force main, and drainage structures
· Experienced with ductile iron pipe, PVC, HDPE, etc.
· Shooting grade.
· Earthmoving.
· Communication down, up, and across. Down to foremen and crews, up to headquarters, and across to subcontractors.
· Establishing and managing to a schedule.
· Scheduling and being present at inspections with AHJ
· Building rapport with team, community, and stakeholders
· Provide training for subordinates
· Enforce safety standards
· Material inventory management
· Ensuring materials meet project and local jurisdiction specifications

Job Summary:

The Equipment Operator will have experience and knowledge in operation of heavy machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Vary depending on experience

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operates construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment in a safe manner, including backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, motor graders and other misc equipment.
- Prepares construction sites for building pads,roads, demolition, or excavation as needed
- Uses excavating machinery to dig holes and trenches used in underground utility such as water lines , sewer lines and storm drainage
- Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
- Uses equipment to prepare building sites for exterior site concrete such as parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, and loading docks.
- Operates machinery used to build roads, building pads, parking lots , landfills and retention ponds
Inspects and fuels vehicle prior to beginning shift.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
- Ability to read building plans related to grading and underground utilities
- Excellent mechanical skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work and communicate with others

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
- On-the-job training offered.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
- Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
