Is good housekeeping needed for electrical equipment? Yes. Insects are attracted to electrical equipment. Is it heat, or 60hz vibration? Insects not only create a mess, they can disrupt the flow of electrical current.

One example is I traveled 900+ miles yesterday only to remove stink bugs from the switch mechanism in an ATS at a cell site. The bug on the contacts was causing a voltage drop across the contacts. 245v on the line side and 205v across the load contacts. The site had to run on the standby generator.

After removing the bugs and polishing the contacts, the site worked fine.
