Earlier this month we were awarded the contract to provide ground protection for the access road leading to a large barn and greenhouse project in Wayland Ma. Following permitting from Mass DEP we hauled 220 sheets out of New Hampshire and installed them on site through the conservation area from the road side 1200 feet to the barn site.

Yesterdays installation of a buried sump pump line. Allowing the homeowners to have a dry yard without the constant saturation of water next to the house will greatly improve the quality of the grass and soil on the side of the house.

I wanted to focus specifically on the “clean out” that you see in this picture. I notice many people with a buried sump pump line don’t do this and I wanted to explain the benefits if it was something you planned on doing.

As the sump pump pushes out water it can often cause a vacuum as the air becomes trapped between the pump and the water. By installing either a wye fitting or a sanitary tee you get 3 benefits.

1: You nolonger will have a vacuum created as the pipe is draining allowing for faster flow of water.

2: By having less resistance and more air it will allow the pipe to completely empty easier allowing you to not worry about water freezing before it can get out.

3: By having two open ends will allow easy service in case there was to ever be a clog. You can access an each end with a drain snake

This is standard practice on every install big or small. Simple and clean the devil is always in the details.

Before, after and during! Our two week check in today to make sure everything was working as designed! Customer states it’s the first time in years that he has had a dry crawl space after a storm!

Some finishing touches from our drainage project a month or two back in Marshfield! ready for Blarney Hydroseeding to work their magic and then to pour concrete to touch up the sidewalk from the panel we had to remove… also wrapped up over the weekend excavating for a pool pad and new lawn over in Hanson, as well as a drainage repair for a sump pump in Pembroke and Preparing for finished landscaping and Helical piles in Boston!

Spring rush is in full swing! These are a few pictures from an ongoing job we are doing in Roslindale. Originally digging for a 2 story foundation as we excavated soils around the existing foundation it was noticed that their porch/kitchen that the previous homeowner added to their house had footings only 18 inches below grade. The concrete was not put on stone and was laying over clay. We made the decision to bring notice to the general contractor at New England Design & construction. We suggested that to maintain the structural integrity of the building it would be safer to put the footings and main beam for this project over Helical piles. Helical piles are a great option for projects such as this as they are drilled into the ground until they reach a certain amount of opposing force that is a pre determined number to allow up to a 2 story structure. With ground water being 3.5 feet below grade this was the best way to avoid excessive changes in the existing grade. We backfilled around the building with crushed concrete to absorb some of the excessive water topped off with woven geotectike fabric and 3/4 blue stone to prevent any more issues with mud for the other sub contractors. We will be back in a few weeks to install the finished lawn and walkway with some Arborvitae’s.
