Safety starts with awareness. Knowing how to check your tank, clear snow, and prevent incidents keeps your home cozy all season. Here are six important steps to protect your home this winter:

1. Check your propane level if you use our Will Call delivery service and schedule a fill at 30% or at least 7 days ahead of time. Want peace of mind and fewer to-dos? Switch to our Auto Fill delivery service and let us handle the rest.

2. Clear snow, ice, and debris from around your tank and access path.

3. Seal windows and doors to keep warm air in and save fuel.

4. Schedule a maintenance check with a qualified technician to keep your system running efficiently all winter.

5. Inspect your generator. Make sure your propane generator is fueled, maintained, and ready for use. Check filters, refill portable cylinders, and test it before the next storm.

6. Review propane safety. Everyone in your household should know what propane smells like and what to do if you suspect a leak.

A propane-powered dryer isn’t just efficient. It’s better for your clothes, your wallet, and the environment. Check out the differences:

➡️ Long-term savings: Lower energy demands means consistent long-term savings. Homeowners can save about $0.25 per cycle with a propane dryer.

➡️ Less energy waste: Electric heating elements require time and energy to reach optimum heating levels, but a propane heater reaches peak temperature the moment it’s activated. This results in shorter cycle times and less energy wasted on warm-up cycles.

➡️ Less damage to clothing: The steady heat of propane requires less tumbling to dry clothes. This reduces the likelihood of damage and stress to stitching and fabric.

➡️ Equipped with moisture sensors: Most propane clothes dryers come equipped with moisture sensors and automatically shorten the drying cycle once the clothes are dry. This also prevents colors from fading, elasticity reduction, and increased general wear and tear.

➡️ Fewer emissions: Propane is a clean energy source with low levels of pollutants and emissions.

For propane homeowners, spring cleaning isn't just about dusting off the shelves and tackling the closet. It’s about getting your home and propane system in tip-top shape:

• Remove any combustible materials, such as dry grass, wood, or debris, within 10 feet of your propane tank.

• Don’t store propane cylinders or tanks inside buildings. Safety regulations indicate storing propane cylinders in a cool, outside setting.

• Make sure to call 811 before digging for major landscaping projects or planting new trees. This line will connect you with the Office of Pipeline Safety.

• Consider an inspection from a Service Technician if you haven’t used appliances since last fall. This includes your propane water heater, gas range, and more.
