✈️ Safe charging habits travel with you.

When charging a device during a flight, keep portable charging equipment visible on the tray table. Never charge devices inside an overhead compartment, where signs of overheating or battery failure may go unnoticed.

Remember:
✅ Keep charging devices where you can see and monitor them
✅ Notify a flight crew member immediately if a device becomes unusually hot, changes shape, produces an odor, or begins smoking
✅ Follow all flight-crew and airline instructions
❌ Do not charge devices inside overhead compartments
❌ Never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on an aircraft

If a battery overheats or fails, the flight crew must be able to identify the problem and respond quickly.

🚪 Keep charging equipment away from exits.

When possible, charge larger battery-powered items, such as e-bikes, scooters, power tools, and other equipment—outside in a safe, dry location and according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

These batteries store more energy, and a fire can grow quickly if a battery fails. Where equipment is charged and stored can make a critical difference during an emergency.

Help protect your workplace by:

✅ Keeping exits and evacuation routes completely clear
✅ Never charging equipment in stairwells, corridors, or doorways
✅ Choosing a designated charging area away from combustible materials
✅ Protecting equipment from rain, moisture, and extreme temperatures
✅ Following all manufacturer charging and storage instructions

⚠️ Know the warning signs of a damaged battery.

Stop using your device immediately if the battery:

👃 Produces an unusual odor
🌡️ Feels unusually warm to the touch
🔊 Makes popping or hissing noises
🔋 Changes in shape or color
💨 Begins to smoke

A damaged lithium-ion battery can overheat and start a fire. If it is safe to do so, move the device away from anything that can burn—but never handle a battery that is smoking, leaking, or actively burning.

If a fire starts, move away from the area and call 911. Do not put yourself or others at risk attempting to move the device.
Recognizing the warning signs early can help prevent a dangerous situation from escalating. 🔥

✅ Allowing air to circulate around the device
