Today, Hanwha Philly Shipyard (HPSI) proudly celebrated the delivery of NSMV IV - Lone Star State to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD).

Built at HPSI, Lone Star State represents another major milestone for our shipbuilders and reflects the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of our workforce and partners. The milestone also reflects the strong partnership between HPSI and TOTE Services throughout the construction and delivery of this vessel.

Purpose-built to support America’s state maritime academies, Lone Star State will provide a modern training platform for the next generation of mariners while also supporting federal humanitarian assistance and disaster response missions when called upon.

Thank you to our employees, customers, partners, and suppliers for their dedication and collaboration, which made this milestone possible.

This week, Hanwha Philly Shipyard (HPSI) was proud to welcome students, instructors, and staff from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) and the Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center (GJCTC) for a Shipyard tour and career exploration experience.

During their visit, participants learned about shipbuilding operations, skilled trades careers, and apprenticeship pathways at HPSI. Many students are developing hands-on welding and fabrication skills through workforce training programs that provide free training opportunities for Pennsylvania residents with disabilities, helping expand access to rewarding careers in high-demand industries.

GJCTC's welding program offers students the opportunity to gain valuable technical skills and industry-recognized welding certifications while preparing for future employment in manufacturing and the skilled trades.

By connecting students with real-world experiences and industry professionals, we are helping create pathways to meaningful careers while strengthening the future workforce.

From day one, our 2026 interns gained hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful projects across Hanwha Philly Shipyard (HPSI). Throughout the summer, they worked alongside experienced professionals, expanded their technical knowledge, and gained valuable insight into the shipbuilding industry.

Beyond their day-to-day work, our internship program provided opportunities to build relationships, develop professionally, and experience HPSI’s culture firsthand. From Topgolf and a Phillies game to volunteering at FDR Park, leadership fireside chats, and other team events, this summer was filled with opportunities to connect, collaborate, and grow.

To close out the program, our interns presented at the Intern Showcase, using interactive display boards to share their projects, experiences, and the impact they made throughout the summer. The showcase reflected not only what they accomplished, but also the knowledge they gained and the relationships they built along the way.

Thank you to our 2026 intern class for your hard work, fresh perspectives, and meaningful contributions to HPSI. We’re proud of everything you’ve accomplished and look forward to seeing where your careers take you next.
