"A chewing gum laced with a plant-grown protein serves as a “trap” for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, reducing viral load in saliva and potentially tamping down transmission, according to a new study."

In experiments using saliva samples from COVID-19 patients, the gum, which contains the ACE2 protein, neutralized the virus, according to research led by School of Dental Medicine scientists.

Yesterday afternoon we welcomed both new and returning Master of Biotechnology students with an outdoor lunch from Di Bruno Bros.

"Penn is continuing its long-standing environmental efforts while expanding others, many of them part of the Climate and Sustainability Action Plan 3.0. New initiatives to recycle personal protective equipment and flexible plastics and encourage reuse of to-go containers for meals on the run, for example, are among the ways that faculty, staff, and students can tamp down sources of pandemic-related waste."

Reusable food containers, a new program to recycle flexible plastics, and mask and glove recycling are among the ways that Penn is helping members of the community keep the environment in mind this year.
