The story behind Hilgy's LP Gas - Phillips

Over 65 years ago, Lloyd "Hilgy" Hilgendorf and Frank Dusek started out as affiliates who created two different LP Gas companies….
In 1956, Lloyd Hilgendorf started Hilgy’s LP Gas by delivering 100-pound cylinders out of the gas station he owned in Tomahawk at the time. He moved up to bulk gas delivery and continued for many years with his wife Rita helping with the business. His son Carl started working with him in the early 80’s.
As the story goes, while running the Standard Oil Station in Phillips, Frank Dusek was approached by Lloyd Hilgendorf about getting into the LP gas business.
Frank decided to do just that. However, he soon learned that Standard Oil was not going to allow him to also provide LP gas at the station!
So, in 1962, Frank bought his first bulk truck, and in 1967, he purchased the current property across from Bader's Sports Center and Pick 'n Save in Phillips. It was the perfect location to receive railroad shipments and keep our community heated all winter long!
Lloyd eventually passed his portion of the business down to his son, Carl.
And when the time came, Frank also wanted to make sure he sold to a skilled and qualified man. So, in 2003, he too confidently sold his portion of the business to Lloyd’s son, Carl.

We offer a 10 cent per gallon discount on deliveries over 200 gallons that are paid for within 10 days of delivery with cash or check.

Choose from Will Call or Auto Fill services for 120, 250, 320, 500, and 1000 - gallon tanks

We offer a Pre-Buy for the gallons you feel you will use over the winter. Our Pre-Buy program always starts in September.

The budget plan begins in May. This is a monthly payment plan that is calculated by gallons used and average cost of the previous year.
