Helios Scholars at TGen EARN AS YOU LEARN: Work in biomedical research and computer science this summer at TGen!

Helios Scholars at TGen is a paid summer internship program in biomedical research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen). Interns work full-time on a research project under the mentorship of a TGen scientist to unravel the genetic components of diabetes, neurological disease, pathogens and cancer. Internships are available in laboratory and clinical research, computational scienc

es and bioinformatics, mathematics and statistics, and research administration. As a part of the comprehensive program, Helios Scholars also: attend seminars to boost their professional skills, explore possible STEM career paths, practice scientific writing, present their research, attend social and networking events, and create a scientific poster. The program capstone is a formal symposium where interns present their research results. Past interns boast an array of impressive accomplishments: published scientific abstracts and manuscripts, top national student rankings, acceptance into first-rate graduate and medical schools, and national awards and scholarships.

The Student Discovery Zone at the AZBio Awards

Attention Students: Join us in Phoenix on Sept.18, 2024 to showcase your life science research talent and compete for scholarship prizes.

The Student Discovery Zone at the AZBio Awards has showcased over 1,400 research posters created by Arizona students since 2011. Students must submit a poster abstract and a 2-minute YouTube Video explaining your research process and findings by September 6, 2024 to be considered by the judges for the scholarship competition.

Students with accepted posters/videos will be invited to attend the AZBio Awards and display their posters as guests of AZBio. In the case of High School Students, one additional ticket will be provided for a teacher or parent upon request. Students will need to arrive to set up their poster by 1:30 PM on September 18, 2024. *We recommend connecting with your mentor if you are thinking of using your 2024 Helios project.

High School Students:
Technical Merit: First Place ($1,000), Second Place ($500), Third Place ($250)

University Students:

Depending on your role, your attire may be impacted. Be sure to connect with your mentor and they can give you more specific instructions and directions on what to wear and answer any questions you may have.
