Our very own Rooster Rhodes snapped this out in the field — and honestly, it's the best explanation of standby power we've got.
That's an ocotillo. Nine months out of the year it looks like a bundle of dead sticks. Gray, thorny, done. You'd drive right past it.
But it isn't dead. It's waiting. Let a real rain come through and that thing leafs out in 48 hours and lights up red. Then the water's gone, the leaves drop, and it goes right back to standing there looking like nothing.
Sound familiar?
That's your generator in the side yard. Quiet. Ignored. Until the lights go out and suddenly it's the only thing you care about — and whether it starts has already been decided by the maintenance nobody was around to see.
The ocotillo doesn't bloom on luck. Neither does a generator.
