Our Story

If you are from Schuykill County then you probably know the Raricks.

Emil Rarick Fuel Service was started in 1940 by Emil Rarick Sr. He and his wife Mary were able to purchase a coal truck and began their own coal delivery business. After school and on weekends Emil would take his young son, also named Emil, with him on coal deliveries to customers in Pine Grove and surrounding towns in Schuylkill County.

Because young Emil was in the truck so much, Emil’s father kept his favorite book, Henry the Helicopter by Eleanor Graham in the glove box for Emil to read in between deliveries. As the family business grew, Emil’s father would tell him, “Emil, you don’t buy customers, you earn them.” One customer at a time the Rarick’s built a thriving coal delivery company.

Emil’s mother did not want their son in the coal industry. She paid for Emil to attend college at Williamsport Community College, where he majored in large equipment engineering. When Emil graduated college, he worked for a local company. Emil married his wife Debra in 1974.
