The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) has awarded a $500,000 grant to support two projects in partnership between Bell and East Tennessee State University.

The funding will support research and innovation through the Transportation Network Growth Opportunity (TNGO) initiative, which aims to diversify the state’s economy by leveraging public and private sector assets to attract mobility research and development investment.

The two projects receiving funding are:

ETSU and Bell Textron Inc., Project I: Design of 3D Printed Tooling for Bird Impact-Resistant Aircraft Windshields – $311,054
Developing advanced polymer tooling through precision 3D printing to improve the reliability and repeatability of rotorcraft windshield manufacturing.
ETSU and Bell Textron Inc., Project II: Rotor Collision Avoidance Alert System (RCAAS) – $188,945
Creating a high-fidelity simulation environment to validate the feasibility and safety benefits of rotor strike avoidance technology.
