“When I began attending industry events, I frequently encountered the “bathroom factor.” I was usually the only person in line for the women’s bathroom…For me, it has been a thrill and an inspiration to see more women in sales roles, particularly in my field of work in appliance manufacturing and now plumbing, which has traditionally been dominated by men…Most people are not thrilled to have to wait in line for anything, but seeing a line in the women’s bathroom at these types of events is something I’ll never complain about.”
In a recently published Q&A interview with Authority Magazine, Kelly Safis, Leader, Sales reflects on moving up in her career in the male-dominated fields of appliance manufacturing and plumbing, and how she often found herself to be the only woman at work-related conventions and events. She muses about how far the industry has come in its inclusivity, and how her career path has shaped the role she plays at LIXIL today.
We are so proud to have Kelly on our team as the first female executive to hold this position at LIXIL, paving the way for future generations of female leaders in our incredible industry.

“Our employees have an emotional connection to who LIXIL is; they want to be at a place where they feel moved by the purpose.”
Recently, Beth Benevenia, Leader, HR Global Ops and Commercial, spoke about health and hygiene in the workplace, finding the balance between remote and in-office work, and helping employees find what works best for them, on the SHRM People + Strategy podcast.
LIXIL recently partnered with Harris Poll to gauge employee sentiment across the US when considering a return to the office, and 84% of participants indicated that health and hygiene were top concerns. For hybrid work models to operate successfully, employers have to reimagine workspaces and create experiences that are inviting, collaborative and supportive. This includes everything from embracing flexible work arrangements to installing touchless fixtures at high touchpoint areas within offices.

Over 2 million Americans lack access to sanitation services. Lowndes County in Alabama is one such community– where a majority of residents live below the poverty level and 80% do not have access to a safe sanitation system.
At LIXIL, we are trying to change that by improving sanitation and water efficiency in over 100 homes across the county. We are collaborating with the federal and state government, academia, the plumbing community and the private sector to find innovative and sustainable wastewater treatment systems for the residents of the county.
