Scientific Bioprocessing

Scientific Bioprocessing There are still too many black boxes and unknowns in bioprocessing.

We help researchers and process engineers make the right decisions by providing them access to critical process and product data.

For Bernd Leuchtle, it's the challenge of solving puzzles by combining technical and application-specific knowledge ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ ...and the colleagues who make the work environment so enjoyable.

In this edition of the people behind sbi, we asked "๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐š๐ฏ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ž ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐š๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š๐ญ ๐ฌ๐›๐ข?" and we got the most heartwarming answers.

Liesa Pรถtschke highly values the environment of curiosity and drive to solve problems in-house.

We like to celebrate these seemingly random science days... but are they really random?

Take Bunsen Burner Day. It makes you think about this seemingly simple piece of laboratory equipment that has maybe always been there? (Not really but it does sometimes feel that way.)
It nevertheless changed our way of working and saved us from so many problems. Think about microbial contaminations: Using the small flame surely has reduced countless contaminations that could have ruined important experiments.

After all, that's our mission as well. Developing lab equipment that makes lab life easier and experimental output greater.

What other laboratory equipment do you value most in your everyday lab work? Or what was the first piece of lab equipment you remember using? ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงค๐ŸŒก๏ธ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’‰

Today, weโ€™re hearing from a true sbi original.
Sayantan Dutta has been part of sbi for over 10 years โ€” countless days, and no two ever the same.

From developing smart solutions through practical engineering to overseeing manufacturing and coordinating shipping and logistics, he keeps things moving behind the scenes โ€” helping sbi deliver and ensuring our customers receive exactly what they need.

Take a look at what a typical day in production looks like through his eyes.

๐“๐จ๐๐š๐ฒ'๐ฌ ๐๐ข-๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ! (not pie ๐Ÿฅง but the mathematical constant)

And it's no coincidence... ฯ€ ("Pi") starts with 3.14 (as in March 14th or 3/14) but in contrast to this day, which will inevitably end after 24 hours, Pi does not!

๐Ÿ‘‰ฯ€ is the constant that relates the circumference of a circle to its diameter. And we are happy to have it because circles, waves, and periodic behavior appear in so many scientific applications.๐Ÿ’ก

For shake flask bioprocesses, it is, for example, the orbital shaking movement that can be described with ฯ€. However... you can also just use the MPS and DOTS Software to get information on shaking speed and much more ๐Ÿ˜œ

Anyways, happy ฯ€-Day!๐ŸŽŠFeel free to celebrate with a slice of pie.๐Ÿ˜‹

Bioprocessing is getting more complicated. Researchers are expected to deliver results faster, with more insights, and bigger ideas on how to optimize. ๐Ÿ“Š Are your OD measurements really up to the task these days? Or is there another contender that might be able to tackle the gaps? ๐ŸฅŠ

Only TWO days left to register for our upcoming webinar in which we will step into the ring and explore another prospect- backscatter. If your process demands faster decisions, deeper data, and fewer surprises, this conversation is worth a seat in the audience. Register today!

Canโ€™t join the webinar live? Register anyway and weโ€™ll send you the recording. ๐Ÿ“จ

It's not just lab work and science but also numbers and ๐Ÿ’ฒsigns!๐Ÿค‘
This week, Marc Vonhoegen, VP of Finance and Taxation shares what a typical day at work looks like for him. Different from the scientistsโ€™ to-do lists, but just as important!

What if ODโ‚†โ‚€โ‚€ simply isnโ€™t the full story anymore? For decades, weโ€™ve all lined up behind optical density like it was the only real option. Reliable. Common. Simple. But also with plenty of drawbacks that just arenโ€™t realistic for todayโ€™s labs.

Now consider continuous, non-invasive monitoring. High data density. No manual sampling. Thatโ€™s where backscatter measurements come into play. Backscatter lets you watch biomass unfold in real time, like switching from polaroids to video.

Want to know more? Join us for our 30-minute live event โ€œThink Forward: Use Backscatter! Why Modern Biomass Monitoring Needs More Than ODโ‚†โ‚€โ‚€โ€, where we explore why backscatter isnโ€™t just an alternativeโ€ฆ itโ€™s an improvement.

If youโ€™re working with microbial cultures and want cleaner insights, stronger data, and fewer measurement headaches, this session is built for you. Join us and letโ€™s rethink biomass monitoring together.

Last year we dropped something tinyโ€ฆ but it made a BIG splash for those looking to measure dissolved oxygen in baffled shake flasks: meet our DO Nanoparticles. These game-changing sensors arrive as a sterile, freeze-dried powder in individually packed vials. Just reconstitute with sterile, demineralized water to create your stock solution, add it to your cultivation flaskโ€ฆ and let the data roll in! But what does that prep actually look like? Hit play on the video and watch our Nanoparticles come to life! ? Want to learn how more about how Nanoparticles can help your bioprocess? Visit https://bit.ly/4kLC3KT

โ€œWhat is your role?โ€ and โ€œWhat does a typical day look like?โ€ are often the first questions people ask when theyโ€™re curious about a company or a specific position.

In this first blog post of our interview series, five colleagues share how their days at sbi typically unfold. From meetings and lab work to problem-solving and nurturing collaborations. Their answers show just how diverse working at sbi can be.
