This is what it looks like when the access equipment has to fit the spacecraft.

We built this two-story crew capsule build platform for a major aerospace OEM -- designed to wrap around a crewed spacecraft during assembly and give technicians safe access from the ground to 15 feet up.

A few things that made this one different:

The platform splits into two halves. Each half has a hinged aluminum hatch with a 108" opening -- sized to close tightly around the capsule without making contact. 3.5" closed-cell urethane bumpers protect the spacecraft surface at every interface point.

Crane interface slots are built into the hatch. The overhead crane opens it -- no manual handling at height.

Two levels -- 84" and 180" -- with diamond plate walking surfaces and 45" incline stairs on 24" wide grip strut steps. Passive fall protection on every open edge at both levels, per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.29(b). Workers don't have to gear up with harnesses for fall protection for routine platform work -- the guardrails are just there.

8" x 2.5" swivel casters with dual-position locks. Rolls into position, locks solid. 3,000 lbs per platform half, distributed. End platforms pull out independently so part carts can roll under.

Single-bay or dual-bay -- two capsules side by side with free travel between platforms at both levels.

17,000 lbs of steel & aluminum, purpose-built for one customer's specific hardware and workflow.

This is the kind of project we like -- complex geometry, high-value hardware, no room for a standard solution.

Built around the machine. Moves with the work.

This is a custom Mobile Access System we built for a leading machinery manufacturer — designed to give technicians safe, compliant access to two large track equipment platforms during assembly and maintenance.

The whole system pins together and rolls into position. When the work is done, it rolls out of the way. No forklifts needed.

A few things that matter from a safety standpoint:

Guardrails on all open sides — 42" top rails, midrails, kickplates, and gated stair entries. Passive fall protection per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.29(b). Workers don't have to think about it — the protection is just there.

Grip strut tread on every stair and platform surface — slip-resistant by design, per 29 CFR 1910.22(a)(3) and 1910.25(b)(4). Built for a shop floor where oil, metal chips, and grime are part of the environment.

Dual-locking casters on every section — wheel lock and swivel lock, independent. The platform doesn't move until you want it to. Rated 1,000 lbs per section with a 3:1 safety factor, per 29 CFR 1910.22(b).

Seven modular sections. Two machine configurations. One system that actually works the way the shop works.
