In Louisiana, during Hurricane Laura, eight of the 15 deaths were from carbon monoxide poisoning from generators.

An underappreciated risk of many natural disasters resulting in significant loss of power is a well-documented increase in carbon monoxide poisoning cases due to the improper use of portable gas electric generators.

With 50,000 exposures and 1,500-2,000 deaths in the United States annually, there is a critical need for better therapies for carbon monoxide poisoning.

We've seen hurricanes and the power outages they often bring. In Louisiana, during Hurricane Laura, eight of the 15 deaths were from carbon monoxide poisoning from generators. Globin Solutions, Inc., in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh has been awarded an National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Phase I/II Fast-Track STTR grant. This funding will help us to continue our work developing an antidote for carbon monoxide poisoning, the most common human poisoning.
