Another week of turning ideas into parts. 🔥

Some were prototypes.
Some were production.
Some required a little more engineering than expected.

Getting a component into production is a milestone. But once it's there, a different kind of engineering begins.

Do we keep optimizing the design?
Do we hold the line on a proven process?
What does the next forecast look like?
Where do we need capacity?
Should we build inventory, or preserve flexibility?
Can we take cost out without introducing new risk?

Because once a part becomes part of a production program, every change has consequences. Sometimes the right answer is innovation. Sometimes it's consistency. And sometimes it's simply being ready when the forecast changes.

Production doesn't always mean the design stops changing... Especially in defense. Platforms evolve. Payloads change. Electronics change. Field feedback creates new requirements. And sometimes the component you need 500 of next month isn't exactly the component you built 500 of last month.

That's where flexible manufacturing becomes a strategic advantage.

Don’t Throw Away the Broken Part.

When a prototype fails during testing, the instinct can be to see it as a setback.

We see information.

Where did it fail?

How did it fail?

Was it geometry? Material? Loading? Orientation? An interface with another component?

A failed component can tell an engineering team more than ten successful ones.

And with additive manufacturing, that information can quickly become the next revision.

Test. Learn. Change. Build again.

That’s one of our favorite parts of working alongside engineering teams.

Every Tolerance Has a Cost.

One thing we've learned from manufacturing thousands of engineered parts:
Tighter isn't automatically better.

A tolerance should exist because the application requires it, not because a smaller number feels like better engineering. Every unnecessarily tight tolerance can introduce additional inspection, processing, cost, and production complexity. And when you're making one prototype, that might not seem significant.

When you're making hundreds or thousands?
It adds up.

Good manufacturing partners don't just ask whether they can hit the tolerance. They ask whether the part actually needs it. Because the goal isn't to manufacture the most precise part possible.
It's to manufacture the right part, consistently.
