An easy way to extend the life of you water heater is to check the anode rod. An anode rod is a sacrificial metal rod (magnesium, aluminum, or zinc) inside a water heater that protects the steel tank from corrosion and rust. By attracting corrosive elements, the rod sacrifices itself, corroding instead of the tank, which can double the lifespan of your water heater. Anode rod on the left was 5 years old, one o.
