AC not keeping up? Before you call anyone, check these 7 things first:
1️⃣ Thermostat settings — is it actually set to cool?
2️⃣ Air filter — a clogged filter kills airflow fast
3️⃣ Circuit breaker — your outdoor unit may have tripped it
4️⃣ Vents and registers — make sure none are blocked or closed
5️⃣ Outdoor unit — is it running? Is anything blocking it?
6️⃣ Condensate drain — a clogged drain can shut the whole system down
7️⃣ Ice buildup — a frozen coil means airflow or refrigerant issues

Your AC is running. The outside unit is humming. But the air at the vent is warm.

That's a different problem than "the house feels stuffy" — and it's usually one of four things. Two of them you can fix yourself in under 15 minutes.

Here's what to check first ↓

1. Tripped breaker or disconnect — Check your panel for the AC breaker. If it's in the middle position, flip it off, then back on. Wait 5 minutes. (If it trips again within 30 minutes, stop resetting it and call us.)

2. Dirty or smothered condenser — Walk outside. Is there cottonwood fuzz, grass clippings, or mulch piled against the unit? It needs 2 feet of clearance on every side. A garden hose rinse often solves this.

3. Frozen indoor coil — Did your air go from cold → warm gradually? Set the thermostat to OFF, fan on AUTO, and let it thaw for 2–4 hours.

4. Low refrigerant — If the copper line going into the outdoor unit is icy or you've noticed the system "running longer" the past couple of summers, this one needs a licensed tech. It's never a top-off situation — there's always a leak.
