The rapid spread of COVID-19 has put many healthcare professionals (“HCP”) under great strain as they selflessly provide treatment and care to affected patients without adequate supplies of personal protective equipment (“PPE”). Simolex Rubber Corporation (“Simolex”) is offering its manufacturing expertise and consulting services to those who are developing new methods to design and manufacture PPE. Simolex has been manufacturing silicone extruded products for over 25 years and serves various end markets (most notably, the medical device industry). Over the past week, we’ve received numerous inbound requests from individuals, non-profits, and large-scale manufacturers to assist them in developing medical grade silicone seals for face masks. During this time, we have assisted in rapid prototyping, same day manufacturing, and next day delivery of our silicone extruded product samples to our manufacturing partners. One of the biggest problems with face masks is that due to varying facial profiles, the masks are not always able to create a proper seal around the face, leaving the HCP susceptible to harmful airborne particles. These face masks also create a level of comfort after worn for long periods of time. Extruded silicone seals are the answer to that problem. Silicone rubber has many properties that make it advantageous for use in the medical device industry. Silicone is highly flexible, water / chemical resistant, and ensures an air tight seal around a HCP’s face.

We recognize that not all masks can be single use and must be worn for days at a time. Some of our manufacturing partners are utilizing materials that can be sanitized and reused. Our silicone products offer the same level of reusability. Recommendations for cleaning our silicone seals can be found below:
Rubbing Alcohol: This is one of the easiest and most common methods of sterilizing medical grade silicone.
Silicone items are dishwasher safe. We recommend removing cords from the masks and washing them separately.
You can also hand wash silicone seal in warm soapy water.
