At yesterday’s City Council meeting, Jason Asbury presented Chief Mike Mullins with a check for $2,300 on behalf of the Muddy Mutt 15K race that’s held every year on Meeks Mountain Trails here in Hurricane as a fundraiser for the HPD K-9 unit.

Kanawha Stone Company is proud to have received a Contractors Association of West Virginia (CAWV) Safety Award for the Highway Division more than 300,000 manhours category. KSC was scored on their documented safety policies and procedures, their commitment and approach to safety and health, as well as their recorded statistical data for the year. Special attention was given to the quality of safety training provided to employees and to companies that demand active employee involvement in their safety process.

Charleston Gazette-Mail recently published an article on the new dog park at Kanawha Stone’s Poca office! The dog park is a great addition to the office culture and emphasizes KSC’s mission of “building more than projects”.

Kanawha Stone Co. recently unveiled the company's new dog park located at its main office in Rock Branch Industrial Park in Poca, West Virginia. Reports say pet-friendly offices are the future of work and improve workplace environment.

Doug Hall was named the KSC 2023 4th
quarter “Employee of the Quarter”. Doug is the KSC Shop Manager. As the Shop Manager Hall is responsible for supervising all equipment repairs in the shop, making sure that equipment parts and job supplies are delivered to the jobsites, and maintaining and performing maintenance on the shop yard and office buildings. Doug has created a high functioning team in the shop that keeps things running at the office. When not working, Doug enjoys spending time at home on his family farm “Heavenly Breeze Farm” in Kenna, WV with his wife “Mrs. Vicky”, his 3 daughters, and his dog “Jake”. Hall enjoys spending time with his church family and riding his Harley will time permits. Congratulations, Doug!

The Wherle Family Private Residence Project is the KSC 4th quarter ‘Project of the Quarter’. The project, which started in October, included regrading the property, construction of a new concrete driveway, and installation of conduit and drainage pipe. Project Manager, Will Drennen, said because of the timeframe of the project, crews had to be diligent to complete the job on time. “Pouring concrete in winter months is a challenge. We had an average of 9 crew members during concrete pours to keep
the project moving.” Superintendent Pat Dalton said the entire crew came together to achieve a high quality finish on the project that adds aesthetic curb appeal to the property that the Wehrle family can utilize for years to come.

Tristen Truman was named the 3rd quarter ‘Employee of the Quarter’ at Kanawha Stone Company. Truman is the Safety Field Manager at KSC where his role is to be available for field employees to ensure they have the tools, resources, and safety related knowledge to perform their job duties in a way that safety and production work hand in hand. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of their shift. Truman has been at KSC for nearly 7 years and manages safety practices at various job sites, with most of his time being spent at the Nucor project in Applegrove, WV. Truman is a Clay County native, and still lives there with his wife Hailey, and two sons C**t Archer (3) and Atlas Kace (6 mo.). In his free time, he said he enjoys spending time with and teaching his boys about the outdoors including fishing, hunting, trapping, etc. Congratulations Tristen!

The Franklin County Phase 3 Landfill Construction project is the KSC 3rd quarter ‘Project of the Quarter’. The project, located in Rocky Mount, VA, started this past June and is slated to be completed in January of 2024. Project Superintendent, Greg Martin, said that aside from the challenges the project is steadily moving towards success due to the outstanding crew members. “Our core crew (Matthew “Smiley” Farmer, Katie Martin, James Shrewsbury, and Caleb Cook) have been instrumental to our success,” said Martin. “As well as Matt Wolfe (Surveyor) who has been a key team member on this project.”
