Well, its never easy.
Had a plan to be in the canyon for sun up to get on the early AM bite we had Monday. The guys were at the Dock at 1:20AM, we broke the inlet by 2 which would put us on the fishing grounds by 5 am or so.
A very unexpected failure of a water psi sensor 13 mi into the trip sent us back to the dock in limp mode - got a part from the Merc dealer and we were back at it breaking the inlet for the second time at 8am. Arrived at the grounds by 11am, only to learn the early bite was good but had slowed and a massive fleet putting pressure on the fish only made things worse.
We stayed much later than normal hoping that when the day trippers left the fish would come up which they never did.
Hit the Bluefin grounds on the way in - marked a bunch - but once again, a lot of pressure caused a case of lock jaw.
We did manage 2 bites in the Canyon but they were small fish....
My next trip will be to a totally new area, where hopefully, the fish won't have had a lot of pressure.
Its been a strange year - I am not the only Capt complaining about the current fishing in our Canyons .
thank you Bobby, Derek, Steve and David for understanding that this is fishing and it can be tough sometimes...your patience and optimism for 'next time' is much appreciated.
Just telling it like it is...we report the good and not so good!
On the positive side the weather was perfect, the ride was dry, the fellas all got along and a day on the water is always better than...alot of things.
