SWFL is definitely in the rainy humid season. Below are some tips to care for your AC system during this time.
* Visually inspect and clean the area around the condenser of debris.
* Make sure the drain line outside has nothing blocking the exit.
* Make sure to check and replace the filter(s) as needed.
* Set the thermostat to a comfortable but not to cool temperature to keep you comfortable but not work the system to hard.
* Use ceiling fans.

HaPpY HuMp DaY!! We hope your week is going well. It is summer time here in SWFL again and the heat and thunderstorms are back! In the event you experience a power outage and your AC does not turn back here are some tips.
* Make sure none of the breakers are tripped
* Try resetting AC breaker
* Make sure unit is set to on and cool
If the unit runs but is blowing warm air turn the system off for 30 minutes and then back on. A power surge can cause the compressor to run backwards therefore not cooling.

Summer is rapidly approaching here are some items to keep in mind when summer heat is in full swing....

* Current outdoor temperature: an AC unit is designed to cool 20 lower than the outdoor temperature.
* The size of the system and the size of space being air conditioned will affect how well the unit can cool.
* Thermal barriers; ie... windows and insulation. Old windows and poor insulation will affect the units ability to cool.
* Hot days with no rain or cloud cover make the unit work harder to reach set temperatures.

Setting the thermostat down to say 69 degrees won't get you cooler faster. It makes the unit work harder and have longer run times. This strains the unit and increases your electric bill.

* Change filters regularly
* Schedule semi annual maintenance with a licensed HVAC company
* Visually inspect the the system, thermostat, filters, and grills for any problems that need addressed
* Clear away any clutter around the indoor and outdoor units

Make sure to go through this checklist once a month or more to ensure you get the most from your HVAC unit.

Having regular maintenance on your AC unit is very important. However, please be aware of the "to cheap" AC tune up. These type of companies can use what is referred to as a bait and switch, possibly misleading the customer on the condition of their unit or change what was originally offered. The last thing you need is to be sold unnecessary items, overpay for services, or rushed into any decisions.
