Quick reminder for my Colorado friends.. cold is coming this weekend, unhook all your garden hoses. I change a ton of freeze proof spickets every year. While you're at it change your furnace filter, smoke alarm batteries and put a blanket on your car! :)

I want to give a shout out to Danny Munez and Open & Closed Garage Doors. They came out and put on new Springs on my garage door and did a complete tune up for me at a very reasonable price. They do great work and are very professional. If anybody is having problems with their garage door I recommend that you give them a call. I can still do certain aspects for you such as installing a new garage door opener but these guys are the real pros when it comes to making sure you've got the right parts for your door and that it's and balance and everything is working as it should.

Just a reminder to be careful where you park with all this inclement weather coming in. Yesterday a tree branch broke off of a tree and landed on my neighbor's convertible. Also when the roads get slippery try not to park after curve or turn where someone may slide into your car. And remember if you your house or your car get damaged during one of these incidence take care of yourself or call your favorite handyman. And if you don't have my number it is 303 905-3694.

Hello! Just a quick word of advise. Those referral sites do not do real, complete background checks. I was a member of Angie's List, Home Advisor, porch.com and a few more. I also have an "A" rating with the BBB, but all these companies cared about was if I paid them for their service. The background check consisted of asking me questions and checking my public record. The best way to find a good contractor is the good ol word of mouth. And if you know a good, honest, reliable contractor, tell your friends. We all appreciate it. And in most cases we are going to do a better job for a friend!

I saw a Billboard that said, "Don't fix it, sell it" from a home flipping company...They know you can get back $2 dollars or more on every dollar you spend fixing it up (if done wisely) Hire a handyman :)

A tip! When some electronic stuff goes on the fritz..try replacing the chord first... My parents HDTV was messing up, and we replaced the HDMI chord ($15) and now it works perfectly! If that doesn't work, then call Your-Handyman :)

OK, I hope this is not too techie, but I have to pass this along to my fellow DIY'ers. When we bought this house the sprinkler system was a cheap one from Orbit. I have been having all sorts of issues with the wire junction boxes (which they don't sell separate) on the manifolds. Well this gentleman gave me some good advice. Just remove the junction box and use a outdoor wire-nut to connect the hot lead to one side of the each solenoid and wire-nuts to connect each station wire from the control box to the other wire from the solenoid and throw the box away. Works like a charm! Better then spending $120 to replace the whole thing! A penny saved is a penny earned! BTW took me 5 minutes... smile emoticon
