A 3-year-old roof. Two different roofing contractors. And a problem that never should have been there.
Here’s something most homeowners don’t know:
The field of the roof is only part of the roofing system. The details are what protect your investment.
Wall flashing. Counter flashing. Dormer details. Transitions. These areas have to be installed correctly because they are often where water finds a way in.
On this particular home, we found an issue at the wall where the roof meets the gable. Instead of tearing everything apart and forcing the homeowner to pay for a full re-stucco after the repair, we took a different approach.
We installed traditional metal wall flashing and counter flashing over the top to properly address the transition and protect the roof system.
And here’s the interesting part:
The home next door had the exact same issue.
Both homes had work performed by the same contractor.
Coincidence? Maybe. But it’s a good reminder that roofing isn’t just about putting shingles or tile in the field of the roof.
It’s about knowing what happens at every single detail.
Manufacturers don’t provide a specific detail for every unique situation. That’s where experience matters.
