We are pretty excited that the Portland Harbor dredging project is digging out in front of our shop today! This project once completed will allow us much better. Any tide access to our equipment in the shop with any Vessel and no longer require planning around the tides or transloading equipment from one boat to another in an emergency. It was a long couple days at the beginning of the week recovering this 42’ fishing boat that parted its mooring and went ashore in Small Point l, Maine. This was a very challenging recovery due to the wind and cold on Monday, remote location, and the fact that the vessel had a large hole punched in the starboard side of the engine room that required the vessel being moved to the neighboring beach to effect repairs that would allow it to safely make the trek to the boatyard. On Tuesday we had much more favorable conditions and were able to patch and de-water, then refloat the vessel and tow it to Casco bay boat works for haul out by IKS Transport, we were able to successfully remove the vessel and the inherent pollution hazard before stong southerly winds Tuesday night that would have further damaged the vessel. Many thanks to everyone involved especially my crew who put in a few long and not super fun days to get the job over the finish line. Newest addition to the fleet! We picked this 27’ Boston whaler vigilant up yesterday in Cape Cod! After a quick sea trial in Sandwich we headed back to Maine! Thanks to JC Marine and Salvage for trucking it back for us and playing along with the ever changing plan. This boat is headed to the shop for paint and cosmetics but will be in service for the spring! We are excited to put it to work and see what it can do! Winter has definetly made an arrival here in Maine, it was -6 this morning at my house. The Royal river locked in hard overnight. While it is cold we are still available 24/7 for any marine towing, salvage, recovery or any on the water needs at 207-352-9000

This weekends project while we had a weather window to recover the vessel in an extremely challenging location. There were many challenges with this recovery but we overcame them. We completed this job with help from Nereus Divers, Fuller Marine Services, while working with the Town of Ogunquit, Maine DEP and USCG to get this vessel removed and ashore where it is no longer a pollution or navigation hazard.

Salvors have refloated and recovered a small tugboat that sank nearly a year ago just off the shores of Ogunquit, Maine. The 25'x14' tug Georgie was under tow and uncrewed when it sank near Perkins Co

One of the seasons more challenging recoveries. This 30’ express cruiser suffered an engine failure and wound up going ashore on a remote island in in very poor weather. We were tasked with removing the vessel once the weather conditions abated enough to safely do so. We were able to re float the vessel using lift bags and tow it to for haul out. Earlier this week we demolished a 57’ wooden trawler that had outlived its lifespan while hauled out at Portland Yacht Services. Working with our friends at Scott Dugas Trucking and Excavating in Yarmouth we were able to safely and efficiently demolish, properly dispose of the vessel at an approved waste facility, and clean up the yard to cleaner than when the vessel arrived in one day. Jamie was more than the rope guru, he was part of the show at Determination Marine since pretty much the beginning. He was also a life long friend and a member of the Working Waterfront and a part of Union wharf. From his days commercial fishing, to running Gundrys fishing supplies on Union wharf , to his time at Yale Cordage, and then starting the Rope Guru. Jamie was always willing to listen to whatever my stupid idea was on how we were going to lift something or tow something or pull something, and usually he could interpret my gibberish or really bad drawing into a finished product that always exceeded our expectations. The waterfront is a small community and you will be missed by everyone in this harbor. I hope the fishing is good up there!
