Week 3 of National Safety Month focuses on Promoting Holistic Worker Health.

At ECR, we believe safety means supporting your mental, physical, and emotional well-being, not just following job site rules. When you feel your best, you perform at your best. Here are a few ways to support your health at work and beyond:

1. Take your breaks seriously; stepping away helps reset your focus and energy.

2. Stay hydrated, especially in the heat or during physical work. Remember, it’s not just about drinking water: your body needs essential minerals (electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium) to actually absorb and use that water. Try adding a pinch of sea salt or mineral drops to your water, enjoy coconut water after sweating, and eat foods rich in natural electrolytes like leafy greens, avocado, and cucumbers. Hydrating smarter can boost your energy, focus, and overall resilience.

3. Stretch before and after your shift. Your body takes a beating every day, so give it some attention and care.

4. Disconnect after your shift; work stays at work. Remember to take time for yourself and your loved ones; you've earned it.

Today, ECR acknowledges Juneteenth, a day that commemorates when news of emancipation reached the last enslaved people in Texas in 1865. Juneteenth serves as an opportunity to honor history, celebrate the strength and resilience of individuals and communities, and recognize the invaluable contributions of Black Americans.

As we observe Juneteenth, we are reminded of the value of learning from our past and coming together to support understanding and unity.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and inspiring Juneteenth.

This June, we proudly celebrate a remarkable milestone:

Kenneth Wilson’s 20th anniversary with ECR.

Kenneth joined ECR in June 2006 as Director of Ship Repair and has since taken on an impressive array of roles across the organization, including Production Manager, Program Manager, Contracts Program Manager, Division Manager at Marine & Industrial Coatings, and Senior Project Manager. Each transition highlights not just career advancement, but Kenneth’s consistent ability to rise to new challenges.

Today, Kenneth serves as the Sr. Project Manager for all down river availabilities, bringing unwavering tenacity and focus to every project. Known for his direct, no-nonsense approach, he identifies issues early, addresses them decisively, and leads his team toward results with clarity and urgency. Recently, his proactive oversight and early intervention aboard USS Tortuga have ensured this complex availability remains on track for on-time delivery to our customer.

What truly distinguishes Kenneth goes beyond technical expertise. His steadfast commitment to ECR’s success, refusal to accept failure, and ability to energize those around him make him a leader others depend on.

Thank you, Kenneth, for 20 years of dedication, excellence, and meaningful results. ECR is stronger because you are part of our team.

On Saturday, ECR joined fellow sponsors and industry partners for the Virginia Ship Repair Association’s Ship Repair Race Night at Langley Speedway.

The evening brought together employees, industry professionals, and their families for a night of racing and community. Our team hosted a barbecue on-site and had the opportunity to connect with the ship repair community while handing out ECR swag to racegoers throughout the event.

Events like this reflect what makes the Hampton Roads ship repair industry strong: a community of dedicated professionals and the families who support them.
Thank you to the Virginia Ship Repair Association for organizing such a memorable evening. We look forward to being part of it again next year.

Week 2 of National Safety Month is all about Staying Safe on the Roads.

Roadway incidents are one of the leading causes of workplace-related deaths in the U.S. Whether it's your daily commute or a long drive, staying alert and practicing safe habits behind the wheel makes a difference every single day.

At ECR, our commitment to safety extends beyond the workday. We encourage every team member to bring the same focus and responsibility to safety outside the yard and on the road.

Anniversary Spotlight: Raymond Olivencia

This June, we are proud to celebrate a significant milestone: Raymond Olivencia’s 15th anniversary with ECR!

Raymond joined ECR in June 2011 as a 1st Class Electrician. His dedication and expertise quickly became evident, earning him several well-deserved promotions: Electrician Supervisor, Electrician Foreman, and now, Assistant Production Manager.

In a department overseeing eight different trades and more than 200 employees, Raymond is a steady force that keeps everything moving. His calmness under pressure, adaptability in the face of change, and unwavering positivity amid daily challenges distinguish him as an exceptional leader.

One example that truly reflects Raymond’s dedication and problem-solving ability occurred in 2025, when he was asked to travel to Hawaii on less than 48 hours’ notice to support the team aboard the USS Decatur. Faced with a complex electrical issue that had delayed progress, Raymond quickly identified the root cause, installed new wiring to the affected fixtures, and successfully completed the repairs. His efforts played a key role in helping the team meet a critical project milestone within the week. That level of commitment and reliability is what makes Raymond such a valued part of the team.

Adaptable. Loyal. Dependable.

Thank you, Raymond, for 15 years of excellence, leadership, and unwavering commitment to this team. Here’s to many more milestones.

This week's Employee Testimonial spotlights Matt Reed, Electrical Foreman at ECR.

As a foreman, Matt believes above all in being the blueprint for his team, setting the example, guiding others, and showing the right way to get things done.

Under his guidance, the electrical department has grown from four to fifteen people, taking on greater responsibilities and building something the team is genuinely proud of.

Thank you, Matt, for demonstrating excellence and setting a high standard every single day.
