Pocket doors are one of the best space saving upgrades you can make. 🚪✨

Framing one on a load bearing wall takes a little extra work, there’s a 2x10 above this one carrying weight from the stairs and ceiling, so a proper structural header is NON-negotiable.

Here’s what every homeowner should know:
🔨 Load bearing walls = structural header required
🔨 Even non-load bearing walls need a 2x4 or 2x6 header to prevent sag
🔨 The door slides into the cavity we frame out, completely hidden behind the wall
🔨 ALWAYS upgrade to soft close, it stops short and closes slow, no more slamming

You do NOT ever bury a junction box. ⚡🔥
Our electricians traced wires going down behind this wall and when we opened it up, we found a live buried junction box with spliced wires sealed inside the cavity. This is a MAJOR fire hazard.

Here’s why it matters:

🚨 If those splices spark or fail, the fire starts behind your wall, where you can’t see it

🚨 Without fire blocking, that fire races straight up the cavity and into your ceiling

🚨 Junction boxes MUST be accessible at ALL times, it’s code for a reason
