If your photocell or floodlights are installed like this, it is WRONG and does not meet code. A junction box is required. This one was installed with toggle bolts, so good luck getting it back up if you need to take it down. If you look up at your fixtures and the screws look like they don’t belong, I.e. drywall screws, chances are this is what you will find.

I’ve been doing a couple of projects around the house while waiting for my Louisiana Home Improvement license. I installed some hardwired ring cameras(attached to junction boxes that are structurally sound and attached to kickers under the soffit and ceiling joists). Also popped in some rear surrounds for my Sonos system. I will be offering these services, once I am licensed!
