Our first priority every day is to get the latest predictions on fire movement and weather. The second highest priority is to try and open up more of our evacuation zones in concert with the incident management team and their fire crews.

We are in contact frequently with San Isabel Electric for updates on their progress on replacing downed power lines and poles and when service will be restored.

When your evacuation zone is opened. Call your propane vendor to inspect your tank and refill it.

We met with a propane vendor today. Many of the homes in Custer County are heated with propane and have above ground tanks.

For safety, the propane industry recommends the following steps when you return home:

AFTER FIRE, PROPANE TANK CAUTION.

1. Do not approach tanks with vehicles. Walk from a distance.

2. Inspect the tank for damage.
Fallen trees can damage valves and safety devices.

Determine whether or not the tank is fire damaged.

Charing or severe damage to the paint or coating can indicate the tank should not be approached without professional guidance.
A fire damaged tank can be at risk of catastrophic rupture.

3. Listen for any sounds.
If bleeding or hissing or the smell of gas is present, do not approach the tank.

IMMEDIATELY leave the area. call 911 and let emergency responders determine how they want to mitigate the hazards.
