❄️ Tip Tuesday! AC Freezing Up? Try This Before Calling for Service.
If you notice ice on your AC lines or your system isn’t cooling properly, turn the air conditioner OFF and switch the fan to ON. This helps thaw the ice and can prevent additional strain on the system.
Before calling for service, check these common issues:
• Replace or check your air filter. A basic pleated filter is usually best. High-restriction or specialty filters, like hypoallergenic air filters, can sometimes reduce airflow.
• Make sure all supply vents and return vents are open and unobstructed.
• Clear weeds, dirt, grass, and debris from around the outdoor unit.
• Allow the system to fully thaw before turning the AC back on.
Once everything is thawed, try running the system again. If it freezes up a second time, there is likely an underlying issue that needs to be diagnosed, such as low refrigerant, restricted airflow, a dirty evaporator coil, or a mechanical problem.
We’re always happy to help, but we also believe in giving homeowners a few simple things to check before scheduling a service call.
